About the National Honor Society for Dance Arts™

The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization. It is one of the most exciting benefits that NDEO offers its Institutional Members. The Secondary Program (grades 9-12) was implemented in 2005. The Collegiate Program was implemented in 2012, and a Junior Program (grades 6-8) was separated from the Secondary Program and officially launched in 2016. To date, there are over 1,500 chapters in the US and over 35,000 students have been inducted in the past few years.

NHSDA MISSION

To recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in dance students across K–12 schools, dance studios, cultural and community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary institutions.

We strive to foster a deep appreciation for dance as a true art form—one that is worthy of recognition, respect, and prestige.

“When I learn new dance moves, I have the opportunity to be challenged with hard routines. When I am challenged, I dance my best and work towards accomplishing a goal. Challenges motivate me to keep practicing and to always push harder. Dancing is also a fun way to connect with different people all over the world.”

“From jeans and a shirt to all black attire with pointe shoes. Becoming a dancer has not only entitled me with discipline and authenticity, but it has opened doors to a finer dance experience, perspective and abilities. Through my years of dance, it has positively impacted my life by intensifying my general well-being, establishing a creative opening in myself, and enhancing community connection.”

“Dance isn’t just a sport full of costumes, makeup, glitter and shoes. Dance is therapy for me. From my head to my toes. From soul to sole. I feel a connection I can’t find with any other.”
